Inside, it’s warm, simple, and properly cosy. There’s one double bedroom with a 150 cm wide bed, one bathroom, and excellent heating for winter: a beautiful wood-burning stove, plus electric and gas heating. Outside, the shared courtyard is a lovely spot in the sun, with a table and chairs you can bring out whenever you fancy.

Capileira is a whitewashed mountain village in the Alpujarras (Granada), perched high on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada, right above the Poqueira Gorge. The village sits at around 1,436 metres above sea level, so you get big skies, crisp air, and proper mountain views.
You are a short stroll from the main square and the everyday essentials: cafés and terrace restaurants, bakeries, small supermarkets, a bank, and village parking. Capileira is compact and very walkable, with lots of little lanes and corners to explore.
This is a brilliant base if you like walking. The Poqueira Gorge is right there, with classic routes linking Capileira, Bubión and Pampaneira, plus longer hikes that head up towards the higher Sierra Nevada trails.
Most visitors use the public car parks on the edge of the village and walk in. In peak season they can fill up, so arriving earlier in the day helps.
Because Capileira is high up, evenings can be cool even when the coast is roasting. Pack a light layer, and decent shoes if you’re doing the gorge paths.

Gas (bombonas)
The water heater, cooker and one space heater run on gas bottles. There is at least one spare full bottle in the kitchen corner by the cooker.
Lighting the space heater
Make sure the gas flow is open (the black plastic lever should be curved upwards).
Turn the dial to position I.
Push and hold the dial down, and press the spark button.
Once lit, keep holding the dial down for a few seconds so it stabilises.
Safety: always turn the space heater off at the bottle before you go out or go to bed.
Water heater
Please don’t turn off the gas bottle for the water heater. If it has been turned off and needs resetting:
Switch the water heater to Off.
Unplug it for 60 seconds.
Plug it back in and switch to On.
It comes on automatically when you open the hot tap.
Changing a gas bottle
Set the gas flow switch to Off (lever curved down).
Lift the connector off the empty bottle (pull up the round plastic collar).
Remove the orange seal from the new bottle.
Place the connector on top and push down firmly until it locks.
Turn the gas flow switch On (lever curved up).
